MATERS HISTORY
Now in its 18th year the Greg Norman Junior Masters is by invitation only and all players who are not selected as District Representatives, eg.(State/Interstate and Overseas representatives) must qualify through either an Open or Closed event conducted by various Clubs and District Associations throughout Queensland.
The inaugural event was held at Sanctuary Cove Resort on the Palms Course on the 9/10th December 1991. This first year was a 54 hole championship with 200 competitors, special guests were Greg Norman and Ian Baker Finch. The Masters has since been held at Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club for the past 16 years.

Age Divisions were Under 21, Under 18, Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12, International Countries represented: Japan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea,Taiwan and Fiji with all States of Australia excluding WA in attendance.
1992: Royal Queensland Golf Club was the venue for the second year of the Masters, played over two days 21 and 22nd December. International Countries represented: Sweden, New Zealand and Japan, with Western Australia and the Northern Territory adding to the Interstate representatives. By this time the Foundation now had a Patron, Her Excellency Mrs Leneen Ford.
1993 - 2003 The Foundation were keen to find a permanent home for the Masters and after talks with Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club both parties felt a good relationship could be forged for future Masters championships. So for the next 11 years Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club has been the home of the Greg Norman Junior Masters.
Changes during these years were the age groups: 1993 - the 21 and Under section was deleted to conform with the International classification of Junior Golfers. Age groups were Under 18, Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12. Also in 1993 for the first time a 10 & Under section was introduced.
In 1998 more changes were made to the age categories for the Masters these were: 17 years, 16 years, 15 years, 14 years, 13years and 12 years. In 2000 the Sub Junior Section was deleted and age groups of 17 & Under, 15 & Under and 13 were brought in, these age groups remain in place today.
His Excellency Major General Peter Arnison, AC, CVO came into office in 1997 and has remained as Patron and a great supporter of the Foundation, until he finished his term as Governor of Queensland in July 2003 then in 2004 Mr. Terry MacKenroth became Patron and still holds this position.
When Merv Norman the first President of the Foundation compiled his welcome message back in 1991 he stated he expected this championship to become a premier event in Junior Golfing competition. What an understatement, the Greg Norman Junior Masters in not only recognised as one of the major junior golfing championships in Australia but has also gained International recognition.
Many changes have occurred to the Masters Committee over the past 18 years, but hardworking committee member Tony Rollins (GNGF) and Director Charles Earp, and CEO Rae Clarke are still at the helm keeping thing running smoothly.

It is also interesting to note the number of Masters Competitors who have now turned professional, to list a few: Karrie Webb, Loraine Lambert, Tammy Durdin, Tamara Johns, Adele Bannerman, Cherie Burns, Rebecca Stevenson, Nikki Campbell, Katherine Hull, Renee Fowler, Natalie Parkinson, Virginia Irwin, Gloria Park, Jennifer Rosales, Nicole Lowein, Jane Bell, Stacey Doggett, Therese Hjertstedt, Kate MacIntosh, Virada Nirapathpongpron, Katherine Hull, Amy Yang and Haeji Kang.
Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Brad Kennedy, Carig Spence, Marcus Cain, David Gleeson, Brett Runford, Luke Arnott, Chris Downs, Andrew Buckle, Jon Riley, Steven Bowditch, Eddie Lee, Adam Crawford, Travis Johns and Jason Day.
Many of our members have played in the Masters from approximately 11-12 years of age until they turned 18. It is always sad to see them leave the junior ranks.
Many of these amateurs have gone on to National and International victories both as amateur and professional players and by the scores now being returned many more will achieve similar success.
The Masters is not only a major junior championship it also gives the competitors the opportunity to forge friendships, some lasting many years, develop their golfing and etiquette skills and have a great time competing against others of similar ages. The parents also enjoy the holiday atmosphere created by the location and many book into the same accommodation year after year giving them the opportunity to trade stories and enjoy each others company.
